என்ன ஆயிற்று?

கல்யாணத்துக்கு முன்
'கவிதை படிப்பாயா'
என்று கேட்டுக் கொண்டிருந்த நீ
இப்போது
'குழந்தைக்கு இந்தப் பள்ளி பற்றி விசாரித்தாயா'
என்று மூன்றாம் முறையாக கேட்கிறாய்

கவிதையை விழுங்கிய பள்ளி
என்று சற்று கோவம் வந்தது

அம்மாவும் இங்கிலீஷ் நோட்டும்

அம்மாவுக்கு வயசு 65 ஆச்சு. சின்ன வயசுல இருந்தே பாட்டு பாடறதுன்னா உசுரு. நானும் ஆணுவும் சின்னப் பசங்களா இருக்கும் போது எங்களுக்கு நிறைய பாட்டு பாடுவா. குரல் பிரமிக்கற மாதிரி இருக்கும். சரியான கவனிப்பு இருந்து இருந்தா பெரிய பாடகியா ஆகியிருப்பாங்கறதுல எனக்கு சந்தேகமே இல்லை. எங்களுக்கும் நிறையா பாட்டு சொல்லித் தந்து இருக்கா. அம்மா சொல்லிக் குடுத்த “பாருக்குள்ளே நல்ல நாடு” பாரதியார் பாட்ட வெச்சு ஏகப்பட்ட பாட்டுப் போட்டில முதல் பரிசு அள்ளி இருக்கேன்.

போன வாரம் திடீர்னு இங்கிலீஷ் நோட் மேல ஆசை வந்துட்டது. அதுவும் நித்யஸ்ரீ பாடினது ரொம்ப புடிச்சுட்டுது. தானும் பாடிப் பாத்துடணும்னுட்டு பிராக்டீஸ் பண்ண ஆரம்பிச்சுட்டா! அது போறாதுன்னு ஆணு குட்டி பெரிய வித்வான்கள் விதவிதமா வாசிச்சது, பாடினதெல்லாம் mp3 ப்ளேயர்ல போட்டு குடுத்துட்டான். அத்தோட நித்யஸ்ரீ பாடின ஸ்வரங்களயும் அச்சு (print) எடுத்துண்டுட்டா.

ஒரு வாரமா அதையே கேட்டுண்டு, அந்த பேப்பர வெச்சுண்டு, டயம் இருக்கும் போது எல்லாம் ஆத்துல இருக்கறவாள எல்லாம் டார்ச்சர் பண்ணிண்டு இருக்கா. வயசாயிட்டதுனால குரல் முன்ன அளவுக்கு இனிமை இல்லை தான்.

இன்னிக்கு காலைல நான் சாப்பிட உக்காந்து இருக்கேன். எனக்கு சாப்பாடு போட்டுட்டு, இங்கிலீஷ் நோட்ட சாதகம் பண்ண ஆரம்பிச்சுட்டா. நேத்திக்கு பாடினதுக்கு இன்னிக்கு எவ்வளவோ பரவாயில்லை. ஆனா இன்னும் தப்பு தப்பா தான் பாடிண்டு இருக்கா.

இந்த வயசுலயும் கத்துக்கணும்கற ஆர்வம், முடியாதுன்னு தனக்கே சாக்கு போக்கு சொல்லிக்காத தளராத முயற்சி, இரண்டும் சுருக்குனு உரைச்சுது. மஹாவிஷ்ணுவோட விஸ்வரூபம் மாதிரி, அதுக்கு முன்னாடி நான் ஒரு தூசு மாதிரி உணர்ந்தேன்.

எழுத்தாளர் சுஜாதாவிற்கு அஞ்சலி

கொஞ்சம் யோசிச்சுப் பாத்தா, சுஜாதா ஆரம்ப காலத்துல எழுதினத விட கடந்த சில வருடங்களா எழுதினது அதிகம். வேலையில் இருந்து ஓய்வு பெற்றதும் ஒரு காரணம். அவரது சமீபத்திய படைப்புகள் ரொம்ப முக்கியமானவை:

1. புறநானூறு ஒரு எளிய அறிமுகம்
2. சிலப்பதிகாரம் ஒரு எளிய அறிமுகம்
3. கற்றதும் பெற்றதும் (இதன் மூலமா தான் மனுஷ்ய புத்ரன் கவிதை பற்றி தெரிய வந்தது. 'நீராலானது' படிச்சுப் பாருங்க)

கடைசிக் காலம் என்று புரிஞ்சதுனாலையோ என்னமோ அவ்வப்போது எழுதற ஜனரஞ்சக குப்பைகளை விட்டுட்டு, அடுத்த தலைமுறைக்கு தமிழ்ல முக்கியமான விஷயங்கள அவருடைய பாணியில் அழகா சொல்லி இருக்கார். எகா புறநானூறுக்கு வழக்கமா எல்லாரும் எழுதற பொழிப்புரை விளக்கவுரை எழுதலை. ஒவ்வொரு பாடலுக்கும் ஓரளவு இணையான புதுக்கவிதை எழுதி இருக்கார். இந்த ஒவ்வொரு புத்தகத்திலும் உள்ள அவரது முன்னுரைகளை பாடப் புத்தகத்தில போடலாம்.

சமீபத்துல தமிழ் புத்தகம் வாங்கி இருக்கீங்களா? இப்போ எல்லாம் அட்டகாசமா பதிப்பிக்க ஆரம்பிச்சுட்டாங்க. நிஜமாவே ஆங்கிலப் புத்தகங்களை தமிழ் புத்தகங்கள் தூக்கி சாப்பிடுது. அவ்வளோ அழகா இருக்கு. இது ஆரம்பிச்சது எனக்குத் தெரிஞ்ச வரைக்கும், உயிர்மை பதிப்பகம் சுஜாதா படைப்புகளை பதிப்பிக்க ஆரம்பிச்ச போது தான்.

இணையத்துல எழுத ஆரம்பிச்ச முதல் முக்கிய எழுத்தாளரும் அவர் தான்.

இத்தனை காலம் சுஜாதா பிரியனா இருந்தும் அவரது சிறந்த படைப்புகள் அவரது சிறுகதைகள் தான்னு ரொம்ப லேட்டாதான் தெரிய வந்தது. உயிர்மை பதிப்பகமும் அழகா அவருடைய படைப்புகள தொகுத்து வெளியிட்டுருக்காங்க.

அடுத்த தலைமுறைக்கு சரியான தளம் அமைச்சுட்டு போய் இருக்கார். தீவிர இலக்கியவாதிகளும் இதை மறுக்க இயலாது. World is such a poorer place without his presence.

Cricket: How should the team from Mahatma's nation react?

Today is a bitter day for cricket. An evenly fought, a gem of a test match, is going to the history books for the wrong reasons. Poor, biased umpiring decisions heavily influenced the result. You must have heard and seen enough of it on the media, so I am not going to elaborate on that here.

Big question here is how should Indian team react to this? There are two more tests to go. Indian captain's comments at the end of the day were very mature, and politically correct.

This is not just the reaction to poor umpiring decisions, the manner Australians conducted themselves on the field is not what we would expect from true champions. They seem to be better at mind games than cricket. They tend to go to any extreme (even lying) just to win. So again, how should we react?

None seem to be answering it right, in my opinion. This is what I would think Mahatma's way of protest/response to the situation:

1. India should play the rest of the series, in very good spirit. But the difference should be that we should
   

   NEVER make any appeals to the umpires

   Opponent is plumb in front? We get on with the next delivery, with complete silence. Let the wicket gets counted in our heart.
   
   
2. We should
   

   play the game VERY honestly

   We should show the Australians what is more important Victory or the Sportsmanship. Gilchrist was known for his 'Walking', we all respect him for that. Australia would have been a better respected team had they taken a leaf from his book. But that book seem to be missing!
   
   
3. We should
   

   give a smile as the reply to the abuses

   we get on the field, and get on with the game for the sake of the game. Abusing back should NOT be our style. This is how we should differentiate ourselves from the Australians.

We may lose the match/series. 16 or 17 is just another number in the statistic. Sportsmanship is what matters.

If we play this way, think about whose victories will be respected and wholeheartedly celebrated.

Is the Glass just Half Full?

Our office has a poster, which is about +ve attitude. I am sure you would have come across that. Here is the sample

Traditionally it is thought that the answer is between the two

1. glass is half empty. This is considered -ve thinking
2. glass is half full, which is considered as +ve thinking.

Here are my thoughts about this, and you figure out whether it is +ve or -ve ;-)

1. The glass can take more water
2. The glass is half full, but with stale water
3. I am not thirsty
4. Hey, I am looking for Juice
5. Is this drinkable?
6. Reminds me of the classic tea glass found at my village
